Yes, I doodle on my mousepad. Thank God I don't have to rely on my drawing skills (or lack therof) for an income...talk about starving artist. English pays far better. ;)
And here's a quote I've been musing on since I read it this afternoon, "The mark of an immature man is that he wants to die nobly for a cause, while the mark of the mature man is that he wants to live humbly for one." It's given to the main character in J.D. Salinger's "Catcher in the Rye" by a teacher in the attempt to inspire the young man to work harder in school and do something with his life. Interesting.

In the context of the story, I think that maturity isn't presented as being necessarily age-linked. It has more to do with the young man's passionate nature and his tendency to be over-zealous or lazy rather than working steadily towards any sort of goal...
I think you undervalue your artwork! Although it may not be monetarily worth much, I certainly find it's composition (how the flowers follow the shape of the "canvas") and the creative medium(random mousepad art) pleasing to the eye and mind.. Interesting quote, though I wasn't very fond of that book. Being steadfast towards a goal is certainly something I could/should learn better to do.
