Shoes are curious things.

So recently I've been wondering: Why do men and women have different sizing systems for shoes? For example, I have a pair of shoes that are men's (size 5 1/2) while my usual foot size is 7 1/2 (womens). Any ideas?
And then I just felt like posting a picture of the vibrams because I think they look interesting. I'm a Chaco girl myself, but I can appreciate a good sole.

Well, in Europe they have one simple numbering system and knowing us Americans, we have to do it differently. Just like how the US doesn't use metric. I'm sure a feminist would say that separate shoe sizing was put place by rich white men to make sure that women stay in their place. Honestly though I don't have any better idea. Nice pun, by the way...

Interesting point about feminism. I kinda figured it was so we could try to delude ourselves into thinking our feet weren't so much smaller than men's, but I'm still trying to figure out why that's such a bad thing in the first place.
Thanks for the feedback on the five-fingers; one of these days when I actually have money...(not that I NEED them)

No, you need them ;-) Really, they're my favorite pair of shoes. They feel almost as nice as going barefoot, but you don't get kicked out of resteraunts!

I never thought about it that way...and not getting kicked out of restaurants sounds good. ;)
